...BANDS OF HEAVY SNOW WILL IMPACT THE LOWER HUDSON VALLEY ANDNORTHEAST NEW JERSEY AND MOVE INTO NEW YORK CITY AND NASSAU COUNTYTHIS EVENING...At 623 PM EST, National Weather Service Doppler radar indicatedbands of heavy snow extending southward from eastern Orange andRockland counties southward into northeast New Jersey, moving veryslowly eastward. These bands should slowly move eastward into Putnamand Westchester Counties, New York City, and Nassau County betweennow and 8 PM. Snow in thee bands will fall at the rate of 2 to 3inches per hour, with visibility less than one quarter mile. Nearblizzard conditions are possible as winds gust to 30 to 35 mph, withconsiderable blowing and drifting of snow. Thundersnow may also bepossible.Nonessential travel is discouraged. Travel will be very difficult toimpossible. Be prepared for additional power outages due to heavysnow weighing down trees or limbs.

Snowfall rates of up to 2 inches per hourand north to northeast winds gusting up to 30 mph expected.Lightning and thunder are also possible, especially over southernConnecticut.Nonessential travel is discouraged. Travel will be very difficult toimpossible due to significant reductions in visibility and blowingand drifting snow.
